Treating a sick fish or sick betta fish in your aquarium can be hard, especially if you’re a new fish keeper and don’t recognize the fish disease. Even if you can identify that your pet fish has fin rot, cotton wool disease, or ich fish disease (also known as ick fish disease or white spot disease), it’s hard to tell what is the best fish medicine that will treat that particular fish disease. After consulting with ichthyologists and spending tens of thousands of dollars in development time and extensive testing, we narrowed down the search to three broad-spectrum fish medication brands to treat sick fish symptoms. Mardel Maracyn (or erythromycin for fish) is an effective fish antibiotic for bacterial infections and is often used as a betta fish medicine for fin rot and popeye fish disease. Aquarium Solutions Ich-X is one of the best ick medicine for fish that also fights fish fungus diseases. Fritz ParaCleanse is an antiparasitic drug for treating fish parasites like tapeworms and hole-in-the-head disease. 

We personally use all three fish medicines on every single new fish that enters our fish store because preventative treatment against fish illnesses ensures that our customers get the healthiest fish possible. These fish medications work for all freshwater fish that have passed through our doors, and they’re safe to use with plants, shrimp, snails, baby fish, and even scaleless fish. We also recommend that fish keepers use this trio of quarantine medications with any new fish they receive to prevent the spread of common fish sicknesses. If you live in a country that does not allow the purchase of these fish treatments, try using aquarium salt instead. Aquarium salt is effective against freshwater ich, mouth fungus, cotton wool disease, many fish parasites, and more. However, it is not safe to use with live aquarium plants, snails, and certain fish like anchor catfish.
