- Long, wispy leaves
- Easy background plant
- Great cover for fish and shrimp
Pogostemon stellatus 'Octopus' is very eye-catching due to its long, wispy and bright green leaves. This easy stem plant thrives under low to medium light and provides excellent cover for fish and shrimp to hide out. Once it starts getting established, it can grow quite tall in a short amount of time and may require regular trimming.
When I ordered this plant, I thought I would want to order more, but didn’t. So glad I didn’t!!! This plant doesn’t stop multiplying and will happily take over your tank, if permitted! It propagates easily, so far I had to remove some from my 55gal and put in my 40gal. And as it establishes, it grows even bigger in diameter. My lord, lol!! Much more than I was expecting. Which is both good and bad.
I received my plants quickly and they arrived healthy. I planted them and they still look great a couple of weeks later. They have settled in and started to grow a bit. I added easy root tabs to help. I received an email from aquarium coop checking to make sure I was satisfied.
Came looking good and started growing within two days. One of my very favorites
Received 5 stems in one pot it came in wonderful condition. Planted in my 10g and added some root tabs. Really hope it does great
This was a rare miss for us, unfortunately. The octopus plants arrived very well packaged and looked robust, and we used root tabs and Easy Green.
Within a week in the tank all leaves rotted and fell off, and the stems began to melt and rot as well - no signs of any regrowth. The anubias plants that I received in the same shipment are doing well, so I do think this was an isolated issue, but it was a disappointment since these are such lovely plants and arrived in good shape.
Now that's its adjusted to my tank parameters, its growing gang busters and looks great. I love the willowy look, with its long emerald green leaves.
I planted these in a 55 gallon aquarium with a gravel substrate and an undergravel filter, along with a supplemental HOB filter. Typically, they say that planting with a UGF isn’t recommended, but don’t tell that to these plants. They are growing strong! I do have CO2 injection, which definitely helps.
This plant was absolutely taking over my tank (in a good way) for about a year. It stopped going crazy even though I was still dosing easy green and root tabs after a while. I came back to the product page and figured out it was likely I had too much light, so I turned my lights down and they're taking off again. Very helpful, perfect plant to suck up everything and keeping me from having to change water as frequently.
Arrived quickly. Well potted.
