Catappa leaves, also known as Indian Almond Leaves, come from the Terminalia catappatree. They have chemical healing properties, which may naturally help fight off mild bacterial, fungal, or parasitic infections. Therefore, these leaves are great for many different types of livestock including bettas, shrimp, community fish, and more.
Perfect Food For Shrimp
Catappa leaves break down in your aquarium from bacteria. This bacteria is a great food source for your shrimp. If you are leaving for vacation and want to make sure your shrimp don't go hungry, you can presoak some leaves in a bucket for 1–2 weeks and then drop them in the aquarium when they're nice and soft.
How Many Leaves to Add
Typically, we add 1 leaf for every 5-20 gallons of water, but it really depends on how many shrimp you are keeping. (If you're making a blackwater tank, then add more.) Most leaves last about 1–2 months until they break down completely. Once you start seeing holes develop in the first leaf, add a second leaf to give it time to start breaking down and releasing tannins.
Yes you could probably get cheaper off Amazon but why? I have received things from Amazon that I would never expose to living environments. I trust ACO's leaves sourcing and the price is quite cheap when compared to other trusted sources. These are full leaves, no cracks, clean, and ready to go.

Catappa Leaves have been a great addition
I have started using these in my shrimp and Cory tanks. All sorts of beneficial effects including a place newly hatched fry graze and get that first meal from the organisms that are growing on the more seasoned ones. Thanks Aquarium Coop. I know you can collect your own botanicals but these make my life easier and I’m lol for that !

Sounds Odd but my Favorite Leaves
These guys are solid.
I boil them, cool off, and put the water tannins and leaves into the tank. They hold up great in the tank for awhile. I love that river bed look in my tanks.

Catappa Leaves
Working on a tank to breed shrimp. Added one of these recently and noticed either my shrimp or my snails (no fish in tank) have slowly been munching on it. Seems to be appreciated. Appreciated the number of leaves in the package I got. Better value than what I found at my local store. Hoping to see baby shrimp soon.
