Purigen is a filter media designed to absorb organic waste such as ammonia, nitrites and nitrates at an incredible rate. When in use, it makes for a crystal clear water column. It is extremely helpful if being used to remove tannins as well. It is not known to remove aquatic fertilizers. Over time, Purigen will darken from white to brown so you can visually tell when it has been exhausted. Many hobbyists won't run a tank without it.

Amazing product!

Wow! Purigen is amazing. I put a branch of manzanita in my tank. Before I did I boiled it then soaked it for five days. In between days I dumped tinted water out and filled the container with fresh water. I put the branch into my aquarium thinking it was fine, no more tint. Wrong. Two day later I woke up to tint in my tank. I had charcoal in the filter but it wasn’t doing the job, then I remembered I had a package of Purigen. Took out the charcoal popped in the pack of Purigen and within 1 hour my tank was almost clear. Within a couple of hours it was clear! I’ll never be without this product. And Bonus…didn’t effect the PH levels.

Got Tannin? Use this.

Add a pouch of this to your filter and tannin is absorbed away. You can even clean it and reuse. I just change it every month.
