- Long, wispy leaves
- Easy background plant
- Great cover for fish and shrimp
Pogostemon stellatus 'Octopus' is very eye-catching due to its long, wispy and bright green leaves. This easy stem plant thrives under low to medium light and provides excellent cover for fish and shrimp to hide out. Once it starts getting established, it can grow quite tall in a short amount of time and may require regular trimming.
When I ordered this plant, I thought I would want to order more, but didn’t. So glad I didn’t!!! This plant doesn’t stop multiplying and will happily take over your tank, if permitted! It propagates easily, so far I had to remove some from my 55gal and put in my 40gal. And as it establishes, it grows even bigger in diameter. My lord, lol!! Much more than I was expecting. Which is both good and bad.
Little smaller than what I was hoping for. But in time, it will fill in.
Plant arrived in great condition, already growing immersed!
Wow, was shocked by the shipment of plants I received. It's a good thing they label the plant bags because they were otherwise indistinguishable except for the hair grass and bananas plant. The contents of the package was ice cold as well (heat pack was totally cold not even a hint of heat), and the destination was Arizona so it was not like it was going to the North Pole. I had bought from the co-op previously, long ago when it was USPS only, and the plants back then were wonderful and arrived looking like plants instead of a black melted mess. I guess maybe I caught the co-op on a bad day. The fact that I ordered on a Friday was probably a very bad idea on my part. I had read they would ship next business day but the plants were packed on Friday and sat for several days before they began transit. I thought they would be packed and shipped on Monday, so my bad I suppose, for assuming. Shame on me. When you buy plants you're really buying roots so I just cut back all the melted mess down to the top of the pots and then put them in one of my patio ponds so they can grow out - will hope for the best. It's no fun scaping a tank with roots after all. The shipment packaging was fairly elaborate but did not help the plants. Seems as if the co-op could save a lot of money and just ship in normal plastic bags in a Styrofoam lined box. I often buy plants from companies that also sell fish and those potted plants always arrive looking healthy and beautiful (and larger for less money). Perhaps it's just the location, being shipped from Kentucky to Arizona, and apparently that just doesn't work for me. I guess I need stick to west coast sellers. It's winter here so excessive heat is not an issue with deliveries. I'm also home all day so it wasn't like the package sat outside for hours, I brought it in right away. Anyway, I usually don't post negative reviews anywhere because people who do get labeled as "malcontents", but for any new aquarists out there who order plants and receive them in the deplorable condition I did, they should be made aware that there are NO ABSOLUTES when shipping live things like plants, even from highly touted sellers like the co-op. If I was new to the hobby I would have been horrified to receive plants in this condition and thrown them out and would have never ordered on line ever again and would have gone back to fake plants. When I was new to the hobby back in the day, the first online plants I had ordered were from the co-op and they were so wonderful it encouraged me to go further in the hobby.
All good
Great addition to my planted tank.
Love this plant, both as a center piece as well as just a great addition to my planted tanks. Ordered 3 and they all came beautiful and healthy.
Both plants arrived in good condition despite the cold weather during shipping. They still look good with no melting.
I think this thing grows 6 inches in 1-2 weeks, I love it. Our black neon tetras are always in or around it. It does get very tall - we have it as a background plant in a 29 gallon, and it does require a little more trimming than our Water Wisteria.
Very happy with it overall!
Though this plant arrived healthy, it was a lot smaller than advertised in photos. It was purchased for my newly acquired, juvenal cherry barbs.
Has been in my 29 gallon aquarium for a few weeks now and it is still healthy and starting to show some growth.
