Java fern is hands down one of the most popular plants in the aquarium hobby. It is a slow grower and will thrive even in low light aquariums. Its thick, long leaves provide excellent cover for fish and fry, and they can often survive in goldfish and African cichlid tanks. It can produce baby plants from dots on the undersides of its leaves, which can be removed and replanted if desired.
Hardy Plant with Easy Care
One of the most popular, beginner-friendly plants is java fern. Its tough leaves can survive goldfish, African cichlid, and even mildly brackish tanks. Just add water, low light, and some Easy Green all-in-one fertilizer to keep it happy. As it gets larger and grows baby plantlets from its leaves, you may need to supplement with Easy Potassium to keep it well-fed.
Attach to Rock or Wood
For a natural look, java ferns can be attached to rock or driftwood with super glue gel. Simply draw a small line of glue on the hardscape, and firmly press the roots of the fern in place for 30 seconds or until set.
I bought 3 Java Ferns and they are doing great! I live in a colder climate and everything was packed very well. Thank you Cory and Team.

Beautiful Java fern
I ordered two pots of the Java fern and two pots of Amazon sword from Aquarium Co-Op, they came in perfect condition, beautiful healthy plants. You cannot go wrong with anything from Aquarium Co-Op.

Nice size Java
I typically don’t have much luck with Java fern, but ordered the Easy Potassium and OMG! It was just what the doctor ordered! It’s gorgeous!

Fantastic but Tricky Initially
Incredible plants. Showed up beautiful and healthy, and you get more than your money’s worth. I’m very happy with the purchase. However, I didn’t realize that each individual leaf in the pot has its own tiny rhizome, so instead of being able to skip the gluing and just let the plant sink to the bottom under its rhizome’s weight or by using a flexible plant weight, each individual leaf is floating at the top of the tank, so I’ll either leave it that way and let them do what they want (might be interesting), or I’ll have to glue each leaf down to something individually. Love these plants, they’re just going to take more initial work than I thought. (For what it’s worth, they tell you on this page that gluing is necessary, so fair enough, but if you choose to glue, there’s a big difference between gluing one long rhizome with 8 leaves versus gluing 8 tiny rhizomes with 8 leaves.) No biggie, just know what you’re getting yourself into.

Great plants, but unfortunate hitch hikers
Bought some java fern a while ago and got some unwanted hitch hikers. Malaysian trumpet snails, worst thing to have as a hitch hiker. Nice and healthy plants though. Still love aquarium co-op

Never Disappointed!
Ordered 2) Java Fern and 3) Cryptocoryne Wendtii Green in October. All were received very healthy and larger than expected. Been in the tank a little over a month (December) and all is well. No melt from the crypts at all. Never disappointed with the co-op!!
