This style of air pump is what I use to run my personal fish room as well as the retail store. Dean, Randy, and Zenzo also run this pump in their fish rooms. These air pumps are super reliable because they don't use traditional diaphragm technology. These are based on a piston like in a car engine. Because they don't vibrate to generate the air, they are much quieter than diaphragm pumps or blowers meant to put out the same amount of air. Many old fishkeepers have had theirs running for 20+ years without service or problems. The great thing about these pumps is they can be used in parallel. As your fish room expands you can add another piston pump to it and the air works together, unlike other air pumps that work against each other.

Good upgrade and a fun project!

It took my 11 year old to open my eyes to the fact that I keep buying "cheap" diaphragm pumps and have definitely spent more on them over the years than the cost of this pump. It came packaged in great shape and I got to work figuring it all out.
Initially I tried connecting my 3/4 ID vinyl hose directly to the pump, but no matter what I did I had some air leaking around it. I finally used the included connector and purchased a 3/4 straight hose barb to connect the pump connector to the vinyl tubing and that did the trick.
Running the PVC loop was no problem, I found 1 1/4" clamps from the electrical section perfect for mounting the 1 inch pvc.
My "show tanks" are on the first floor while my "fish room" with the air loop is directly below them in the basement. It's easy to drill holes to pop airlines down and connect but I also, for various reasons, didn't want the air running all the time in some of the show tanks... so I Teed off the main 1 inch air loop and added a 3/4 solenoid powered on a smart plug. This way I can time when the air connected past the solenoid turns on and off.
I also read it is important to extend the life of the piston pump to not operate under too much pressure. I added a 1/4 inch low pressure gauge to monitor it. I used a 1/4 inch male threaded push connector and installed it in the PVC the same way as the you install the air valves. Then used some 1/4 inch tubing to connect the gauge.
On the one corner of the loop I added a gate valve with a "muffler"... this way I can look at the gauge and if my pressure was too high I can crack the gate valve and get it tuned just right. It makes a small hiss sound but nothing too bad. I keep it at just under 2 psi.
I figured I would attach a picture showing the piston pump and if you look below it in the cinder blocks that is all the air pumps that it replaced!
So far so good.. should pay for itself in short order.

Worth every penny

Have my 7 tanks in my living. Had regular air pumps and the noise bothered me. Anyway got the linear air pump. Watched the Aquarium Co op videos on how to set up. I did a loop behind my stands. All I can hear now is the bubbles in the tanks!! I LOVE IT!!

Linear Piston Air Pump

Excellent addition to my fish room! It took the place of 6 dual port air pumps and still has plenty of volume for additional future tanks

Air pump linear trashed out at two years

The $249 pump air pump that I bought lasted little less than two years it’s completely burnt smoked. Is someone gonna cover this or do I have to throw it away and get another one you know you said you have guys running these for 20 years yeah well I didn’t get to so I’ll give him my name my address and my email George Hunt 170 Woodside Trail, Lebanon, OH 45036. My phone number is [****] and I bought your air pump from you and I don’t know why it’s broke Right direction or I’ll send you this one. You can send me one back. That sounds good, but perhaps you can find me in your system thank you George Hunt.

Love this pump

I’ve been wanting to set up a central air loop for some time and I’m so glad I finally did. The pump is super quiet and powerful. One pump running the entire room definitely has its advantages.

A workhorse!

I bought this LPAP 4 years ago. Today, I just changed the filter for the first time (not recommending this lack of maintenance). Admittedly, there is a decent air filter in the room, but given the unfaltering service this pump has provided in that time, I thought it would be in for worse. Knowing how absolutely easy it was to change the filter, I'll be doing it more frequently. But, I would recommend this pump to anyone no hesitation!

Better than expectations

Have 12 aqauriums with 17 sponge filters running and the output of air is perfect! Super quiet and way more energy efficient than individual multi outlet air pumps. Also flow strong enough I also shut down my back filters as well saving even more energy costs and filter pad replacements.

Holy moly 😊

This thing has some power! I went from it to 3/4” hose, then to 1” pvc. Painted the pvc black with some spray paint. It looks professional and works crazy well! I hope to have it for 20+ years. The only thing I wish they also sold is the plumbing needed to include a bleeder valve, silencer, and air pressure guage. I’m worried about having too much back pressure on the pump, shortening the life of it. Right now I just used an extra individual metal valve and have it all the way open. The extra valve is loud though..
