  1. Which Easy Plant LED light should I get for a 16" 5-gallon aquarium? The Aquarium Co-Op Easy Plant LED is made with expandable brackets, which allows smaller models to be “sized up” to the next aquarium size. This means that a 12-inch model can be used on a 20-inch-wide aquarium. We will be releasing a 16-inch version in upcoming production runs.

  3. How long do the sliding brackets on the Easy Plant LED light extend? The Aquarium Co-Op Easy Plant LED is made with expandable brackets, which allows smaller models to be “sized-up” to the next aquarium size. The brackets on each end of the light slide out so that they may fit slightly wider aquariums (for example, going from a 36” wide aquarium to a 48” wide aquarium). The 12-inch light model has the brackets extend 4.5 inches on each end, for a total of 9 inches. For all of the other light models, each sliding bracket extends 7.5 inches on each end, for a to...
  4. Which size of the Easy Plant LED light do I need? See the Easy Plant LED product page to pick a light that matches the length of your aquarium. In practical terms, this means that if you accidently knock the light into a tank or it gets sprayed with water from an air stone, it will continue operating. This product has a 3-year warranty, and we focused on making sure that every feature l...
  7. How long should I turn on the Easy Plant LED light for my planted tank? For a newly planted aquarium, the plants will take some time to adjust to their new surroundings. Therefore, we recommend scheduling the light for less time duration at first for a total 6–8 hours a day using an electrical outlet timer like the Kasa Wi-Fi timer. Also, start with lower light intensity around 20–40% brightness (level 2—3) and gradually increase the intensity if there is no algae growth. If a significant algae bloom happens, then lower the brightness again. See the product page ...

  10. Is the Easy Plant LED light programmable with a phone app? In our experience, aquarium light apps for smartphones are often poorly designed, unreliable, or are not supported in the long run. Given the expensive development cost it would take to make a well-designed app that works flawlessly all the time, we decided that it was better for us to focus on achieving our goal of creating the best possible light that lasts a long time while still remaining affordable. Therefore, we recommend using an electrical outlet timer to schedule when the Easy Plant ...
  11. Does the Easy Plant LED light have a sunrise or sunset mode? Aquarium plants do not require an exact simulation of the sunrise and sunset to grow well, given that nature often has cloudy days or different seasons. These fancy features are mostly for the humans, rather than for the benefit of the plants. In our experience, we have found that providing the same, consistent lighting for 6–12 hours each day produces amazing plant growth. Therefore, we decided to drop this feature for the Easy Plant LED and focus on achieving our goal of creating the best p...
  12. How long is the cord for the Easy Plant LED light? Why is the cord so long? The cord length on all of models of the Aquarium Co-Op Easy Plant LED is 12 feet. The cord length between the light and the controller is 3 feet. We developed this product to have a long cord so that customers can utilize this on aquariums that may be located far from a power source. Additionally, we didn’t want the light to have a heavy ballast hanging off the back of the aquarium, potentially dragging the light down, so we designed the electrical ballast to be built into the plug itself.
