To optimize the sponge filter’s performance, we’ve included an air collar that replaces the need for an air stone and minimizes bubbles coming out of the side of the sponge. The air collar produces smaller bubbles that lessen noise and create more continuous current. If you need greater water circulation, use the included Easy Flow accessory that curves the uplift tube so that water flows out of the sponge filter horizontally across the water surface and around the aquarium.
The Aquarium Co-Op sponge filter is designed using coarse foam so that it can go many weeks between cleanings. The weighted base will immediately sink to the bottom of your aquarium, so no more floating up after a water change or initial installation. Also, the green plastic helps hide algae and blend in with your live aquarium plants.

I have used sponge filters for a long time. I've used powerheads with my undergravel filters for a long time. But this is the first time I used a sponge filter with a powerhead. I will never use a sponge filter with an airpump again. The added water flow with the powerhead works great with the sponge filter. I plan to upgrade all my sponge filters to use powerheads for the added flow and biologic filtration!

Co op really makes the best sponge filter, the sponge is coarser than anything you'll find on Amazon so it doesn't clog up with suuuuper fine particles, and a great price point too
I don't like that there is a minimum purchase amount to order things tho, especially if I just need one sponge
